Final Exam Planning

I plan on shooting this assignment this weekend (4/29-30/17) in downtown Austin. I will either document me and friends at castle hill doing graffiti, or milling around South Congress, 6th street, the lake, or just exploring other places in Austin. In order to compete this project I will use my father's camera equipment, basic things like a tripod and lenses. I will narrate at the beginning of the video to explain what will happen, but through the rest of it there will only be music. There will be cut up portions of film throughout the video of actions I or someone else makes, and the still images will be snapshots of activities or quaint scenes.

Sensory Overload

"I believe that more and more, we are defining our environments not as the spaces themselves, in terms of the buildings or architecture, but rather by the objects and devices that we buy and surround ourselves with. ... I would like that message to carry through universally," Seymour said.

1. I think this statement is an accusation of society in general, and Seymour seems disappointed in people's failure to recognize their surrounding's beauty beyond the material objects. I agree with this statement, since I can see what Seymour has explained in person. People at concerts and on vacations taking pictures of where they are, but they don't truly appreciate the scenario in the moment. As a photographer I feel inspired to capture the little things that people might not notice around them. Others might have an image of the bigger picture, but what about the things hidden in plain sight? The things that aren't focused on, I want to shine the spotlight on it.

2. If I had the opportunity to visit Yiwu Commodity City I would definitely have my camera with me. Seeing the array of color in Seymour's photos makes me want to see more of the market.

3. I think it would be a very interesting experience to be the child of someone who worked at the market, especially if their parent allowed them to explore the plethora of stores.

4. My favorite photo shows a female seller sitting among a bright variety of artificial flowers that are spreading off of the walls and sprouting from containers on the floor.
