Nick Brandt and the Plains of Africa

A photographer named Nick Brandt took photo of the animals of Africa in their natural habitat. He spent months in Africa follow certain animals around, waiting for the perfect moment to snap a photo. All the hard work payed off! His photos had an amazing outcome, and I think every image is beautiful and unique in the way that the animal is exposed.

This is one of my favorite photos taken by Nick Brandt. It's a photo of a male lion laying on a rock with his paws in front of him, and he's looking off into the distance. The reason why I favor this picture so much is because the features of the lion in the picture is very defined, and his eyes look beautiful. The rule of photography, Simplicity, is relevant in this image. The lion is obviously the subject of the photo, and he is in the center of the photo, as well as the center of attention.

Nick Brandt is intrigued by the animals of Africa and wants to show animals "simply in the state of being." He's expressed that his goal with his photos is to spread awareness of the dangers the animals of Africa are plagued with, such as poaching. He hopes to expose the animals as their most peaceful self, and show the people who seem them, what beautiful creatures they're wiping out.

"There is also something deeply, emotionally stirring and affecting about the plains of Africa- those vast, green rolling plains punctuated by graphically perfect acacia trees under the huge skies." -Nick Brandt
